Government to review internal security situation Sunday: Patil

New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) The central government will convene a high-level meeting Sunday to review the internal security situation, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said Saturday while condemning the serial bombings in Ahmedabad.

Speaking to the reporters after his return from Pune, Patil said he is in touch with senior home ministry officials as well as the Gujarat government and the Director Intelligence Bureau and “monitoring and assessing the situation”.

Patil, however, refused to say anything about the possible terror outfits behind the bombings in which at least 15 people were killed and over 70 injured.

“I have come from Pune only half an hour earlier. I have received some information from the DIB. We have also received some information from the government of Gujarat. I have some information, but I will not give that information to you,” said Patil.

“It is not the time to allow the situation to worsen and create more terror. It’s the time to assess the situation and help the people,” said Patil.

The home minister said that it was “not the time to put the blame on others and say that the law is not there or the police acted carelessly”.

He said the central government would extend all possible help to the state to tackle the situation.

Patil also conveyed his “concern and sympathies to the victims of the Ahmedabad serial blasts”.
