New Delhi : The Indian tourism sector has been upbeat in the current year with 2.38 million foreign tourist arrivals in the first six months netting the country $3,589.83 million in foreign exchange.
The tourist arrivals during the same period in 2006 and 2005 were 2.13 million and 1.82 million respectively, according to official figures released Wednesday.
The foreign exchange earned in the first six months of 2006 and 2005 was $3,037.04 million and $2,661 million respectively.
The number of foreign tourist arrivals was the highest in January at 532,088. After a decline in May when it touched 267,758, the arrivals increased in June to 310,104.
