Lucknow : A court in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday ordered the police to book lawmaker of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party Bhagelu Ram and 11 others, including six police personnel, after Ram allegedly directed policemen to attack a villager and his family besides attempting to get a plot vacated by force.
“According to the complainant, Harishchandra Mishra, the police, acting on the directions of the legislator, Bhagelu Ram, attacked his house June 19. Besides battering his entire family, Ram also asked him to forcibly vacate a piece of land,” a court official told IANS.
The lawmaker wanted to occupy the land and the police was hand in glove with him, the complainant alleged.
Ram represents Kadipur constituency in Sultanpur district, about 150 km from the state capital here.
Besides, Ram, the court has also issued asked that the inspector of the Kadipur police station and five other policemen be booked.
The court wants them booked under 27 sections of the Indian Penal Code.
“We are yet to receive the hard copy of the court’s order,” said Superintendent of Police Sultanpur D.C. Mishra.
