Suicide bomber surrenders to Afghan Army

Kabul : A would-be suicide bomber surrendered to Afghanistan National Army (ANA) was shown to media by the army on Sunday.

“Zakirullah, 15, a student of grade 9 in Tagab district of Kapisa province, run away from Taliban center and surrendered to the army after Taliban commander Mawlawi Azharullah forced him to carry out suicide bombing,” spokesman of the army General Zamaria told newsmen at a press conference.

He said that Taliban commander Azharullah has been forcing people to carry out suicide attack and target Afghan and international troops based in Kapisa province 80 km north of Afghan capital Kabul.

“Mawlawi Azharullah told me to carry out suicide attack and straight go to paradise and you would enjoy all facilities there in paradise,” the boy told reporters.

He said that Taliban shot dead a teenage some months ago in Tagab district when he refused to blew himself up against government interest.

Afghan security forces several months ago captured another suicide bomber, an 18-year old boy, from Pakistan’s tribal area but President Hamid Karzai pardoned him and handed him to his father.

Taliban militants fighting Afghan government and the international troops based in Afghanistan have intensified their activities mostly in the shape of suicide attacks and roadside bombings this year.

More than 2,500 people including militants, troops and civilians have been killed in conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency so far this year in Afghanistan.
