Mumbai : Indian equity markets stayed flat early afternoon Monday. There was buying interest in banking, metal, FMCG and auto stocks but oil and gas stocks were under selling pressure.
At 1:30 p.m., the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, the Sensex, was at 14,637.61 points, down 19.08 points or 0.13 percent from its closing figure last Friday. It had touched a low of 14,503.51 earlier Monday.
At the same time the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was down by 1.85 points or 0.04 percent to 4,411.70.
The market breadth was positive. On BSE, 1,717 shares advanced, 783 declined and 67 remained unchanged.
