By Xinhua,
Gaza : An Islamic Hamas movement’s spokesman in Gaza disparaged on Tuesday Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s statements that the Israeli army would storm the Hamas-ruled enclave sooner or later.
Fawzi Barhoum, Hamas spokesman in Gaza said in a written statement that statements of “the Zionist minister of war Ehud Barak to carry out a large-scale military operation against Gaza are stupid statements.”
Barak had told on Monday his Labor party members in a conference held in Israel that sooner or later, the Israeli army would carry out a large-scale military operation into the Gaza Strip.
Egypt has brokered a truce deal between Israel and Gaza militant groups for six months only in the Gaza Strip. The deal came into effect on June 19, where Gaza militants refrained from attacking Israel with homemade rockets.
According to the deal, Israel eases a blockade and security restrictions imposed on the Gaza Strip after the movement took control of the strip last summer and routed President Mahmoud Abbas security forces.
“The statements of Barak express the political bankruptcy in dealing with Hamas movement and the Palestinian armed resistance,” said Barhoum, adding “the statements are just part of Barak’s elections’ campaign.”
He added that Barak’s party, the Labor party and other parties in Israel “have failed and suffer from political weakness. Barak should know that he and his abortive government will pay a heavy price if they carry out such a stupidity.”
