In support of Dr. Haneef

By Kashif-ul-huda

Dr. Mohammad Haneef is innocent. Not enough evidence is out there to suggest he was in anyway involved with people who were arrested in UK for failed terrorist plan. But in the new jungle law of post-9/11 world, you are guilty until proven innocent. Case of Dr. Haneef is most extreme. Even Australian Court did not think that there is any evidence to link him to any terrorist or their activities and therefore granted him bail.

But of course, we are forgetting that Dr. Haneef is a Muslim and even when court agreed that he is innocent he was not released. Australian Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews revoked his visa. Sure, Australia has any right to revoke their visa but then deport him to India, his country of origin.

But alas that did not happen and India bound doctor is behind bars. They can do this because they have no respect for Indians and contempt for Muslims. A Double whammy for the poor doctor, who was in Australia to serve Australians and earn a respectable living.

Unfortunately, Indian Muslims have remained silent on this issue, no vigil, no protest, no rally. Indian Muslim leaders and Indian Muslim organizations who are quick to condemn terrorism should also be quick in championing issues that concern us and protesting things that bother us. Elation of Indian Muslim intelligentsia at the possible nomination of a Muslim for the Vice President post is understandable but  that does not help them connect to Indian Muslim masses and issues that matter to them. For long our leaders have been occupied with symbolic issues ignoring issues Muslim face every day.

If we are serious in making sure that terrorism does not find home amongst Indian Muslims then our intellectuals, leaders, and organizations need to be more outspoken. They should be able to speak their mind without fear. A major reason for support of Al-Qaida in the Arab world is due to the fact that only Al-Qaida was speaking what Arabs wanted to hear from their leaders.

Let this not happen in India. Let not terrorist and extremist take control of the debate and issues. Moderates can not be timid, they have to lead or lose the leadership position and all respect. This is what has happened in Arab countries. India provides democracy, stability and freedom that moderates can take advantage of nip all extremist tendencies in the bud by discussing and addressing all grievances.

I am happy that India has rightfully protested the illegal detention of one of its own by summoning Australian diplomat and complaining. GOI should be forceful and loud in their protest. Let the world know that an Indian life is not cheaper than any Australian, American or British. A nation of one billion and the largest democracy in the world deserve some respect.

Dear Brothren &

Dear Brothren & Sisters

Things are not in favour of Islam in this world. Please remember and follow, what our Prophet (PBUH) and his followers have advised us to do. Let us implement Sunnah in our life. Have patience. Al Sabr Muftahal Faraj. Our soft approach is the best way to win the hearts of non-believers, whom we should invite for Islam.

The detention and subsequent

The detention and subsequent release of Dr Haneef has been an embarrassment to my country, Australia. The new anti-terror laws (vehemently opposed by a large section of the public) have been used in a situation our politicians assured us would never occur. I have never supported these laws, and I was shocked that the Australian Federal Police have applied them in a situation that surely does not require it. (A SIM-card? ... Really...)

In Australia, the opinion of the community is sharply in Dr Haneef's favour, as all members of the community, Muslim and other, unite to rail against the injustice of Mr Kevin Andrews' decision to revoke, and keep, Dr Haneef's visa.

I am not a Muslim, but I have a healthy respect for Muslims, as I do for all; Christian, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, atheist.

On behalf of my country, as a young, half-Indian half-white Australian, I apologise to Dr Haneef for the humiliation he suffered (and continues to suffer in regards to his unreturned visa) under the hands of my foolish government.

The detention and subsequent

Hello brother,
It is the will and the commitmet of people like you there not only saved 'Dr.Haneef' but also strenghted in faith in human values.

In support of Dr Haneef

The Australians should simply accept they made a mistake and release the man forthwith.

An obstinate insistence of their position will make matters worse.

Because it is obvious now that they committed errors in their zeal to show the world that they are good detectives, forgetting, that their actions will show the world that they are bad people!

The empire as terror being

The empire as terror being global, the racist Howard is clutching the straw (Dr Haneef) to stay in power. He has disgraced Australia.
His redemption lies in an apology both to Dr Haneef and Australia, and in making amends to both.

It is DUTY of each and every

It is DUTY of each and every Human being to fight the attorocities caused on fellow human being irrespective of releigion, caste or creed. No doubts Dr. Haneef is target only because of his religion, but we need to literate this to all fellow country man so people with conciouslness understands and support... It is our sacred duty to make people understands what Islam is and what its message - the ultimate duty of Muslim - Let us join hand together not only with our brother Dr. Haneef but all those unfortunates whose case did not surface up... Thanks

It is unethical both on

It is unethical both on Australia's and India's part for not freeing Dr. Haneef. If these instances keep repeating, the very cause of "fight against terrorism" will have no meaning besides they fuel the ideologies of terrorism in the minds of service minded muslim against both the countries.

illegal detention

Revoking visa of Dr. Mohammad Haneef and his illegal detention by a developed and supposedly civilized nation like Australia is highly deplorable, to say the least.

Finally,some one has spoken

Finally, some one has spoken for dr haneef!alhamduliilah.
You have well said,
Its highly shocking to see the muslim leaders quite like this, not even a single one, political,or non political has opened their mouth.
you are right, that these leaders, and scholars, who talk about world wide muslim harrssment are just ,Allah KNOWS WHAT,running away at this hour of need.
Yes,its sad,no protest,no rally, sad and pathetic we the muslim community have become.
alhamdulillah, that our prime minister has spoke out for him.
alhamdulillah.

Illegal detention of Dr. Haneef

All I can say is that the Government of Australia are not human beings. They are bloody animals.

In support of Dr. Haneef

This is new World Order; subjugate muslims in every possible manner at a slightest oppurtunity
