New AMU Court elected, anti-VC camp among the losers

Aligarh: The Court which is the supreme governing body of the Aligarh Muslim University was reconstituted here yesterday with elections to 42 vacancies.

Most of those who belong to anti-VC camp have lost the election to the Court only Wasim Ahmad from this camp was able to get 40 votes to secure a seat.

Some other prominent losers are Abu Asim Azmi, Khalid Masood, Khursheed Ahmad Khan, Industrialist and recently awarded Padma Shri Irshad Mirza, lyricist Javed Akhtar, poet Shaharyar, advocate Zafaryab Jilani. All of them were members of the previous court.

Rajya Sabha member Mohd. Adeeb, and prominent Jamiat Ulema leader Maulana Arshad Madani also failed to win a seat. Though Maulana’s nephew Mahmood Madani was able to win 44 votes.

Maualna Rabey Nadvi got 75 votes- highest in this election.

Razia Sultan of Punjab Waqf Board, Praveen Talha, Prof. Zakia Siddiqui were three women who contested and won their seats.
