International student assaulted in BHU campus; probe ordered

Just three weeks after the Banaras Hindu University erupted in protests following harassment of female students in the campus, another student has been assaulted by senior students under the pretext of ragging.

Munish Krisil Sami, a first-year graduate student in the university who belongs to Fiji, was taking his bike out from the parking from his department on Friday. According to Munish, his seniors approached him and asked him few questions. When he refused to answer those questions, he was beaten up by those students.

Munish thought of keeping the matter to himself but when he saw the same boys following him on Saturday, he decided to lodge a complaint in the proctorial board.

The Police has filed a FIR in the case on Sunday and the investigation of the matter is going on. The anti-ragging cell of BHU has also initiated an inquiry into the complaint.

After Sami lodged a complaint, the accused boys again beat him on Saturday night near Lal Bahadur hostel. Sami, who does not know the assaulters by name, claims that he can recognise them if he sees them again.

Munish registered a complaint on Lanka Police Station, based on which police registered a FIR on Sunday against unknown assailants.

FIR was lodged under the sections 323, 504 and 352 of IPC in this connection against four unidentified persons. SO at Lanka Sanjiv Mishra said told media that the efforts are being made to catch the accused boys.
