Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori is the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People’s League, a member of the Hurriyat Conference (G). Sopori has the rather unwarranted distinction of being the oldest political prisoner in Kashmir at the age of 70 and has spent over 20 years in jail due to his protests against the Indian government. He was first hit by a bullet in his leg when he was just 17,  and was arrested for the first time in 1977. Since then, he has seen over 20 PSA cases filed against him.

Due to the torture he has faced over the years, he now suffers from various media complications. His knees are damaged, he is  heart patient, his shoulders hurt and he has to use a neck brace most O the time. But this has not stopped the police from actively pursuing him because of his beliefs. In September 2018, after the court quashed the cases under PSA against him, the authorities booked him again accusing him of giving a speech at the funeral of a Qayoom Najar, a militant and arrested him again. In January 2019, he got bail from the High Court and returned home after two years.
