Signature campaign to boycott hate mongering newspaper

TCN News

A signature campaign was organised today after the Friday prayers in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand district in more than 35 mosques against Dainik Jagran Hindi newspaper that had published fake news that Muslims were mob lynching of a juvenile thief on 12th July.

The enraged Muslims had burnt copies of the newspaper then. And today they sent a memorandum to the President of India appealing him to enact a strict law that will prevent such fake news that are communal and spread hatred and incite violence. Had not the people been proactive in Jamshedpur, there would definitely be violence between the 2 communities.

Around 15000 people from not just the Muslim community but also Sikhs, Dalits and other backward caste communities signed the protest campaign. The signature campaign was  organised by Bahujan Kranti Morcha and Raashtriya sikch Morcha. Leaders of both groups in Jharkhand Kashif Raza Sidddiqui and Rohit Deep Singh said, ” We have been continuously boycotting Dainik Jagran from the last 7 days. And today we have collected 15000 signatures from peace loving people which we are going to send across to the President of India”.

“We want the media houses to be more responsible and accountable. They cant publish false news and get away with it.” said Rohit Deep Singh to TwoCircles.net

Kashif Raza told, ” The way Dainik Jargan distorted the facts, it is obvious that he wanted to evoke feelings of hatred in the hearts of peace loving people of Jamshedpur. Till the news head of Jamshedpur edition does not apologise we are going to continue the boycott of the newspaper”.

He also told that the state of Jharkhand has become the capital of mob lynching in the recent years with a number of Dalits, Adivasis and Muslims being killed by the Hindutva fascist groups.

“As of now the paper has been boycotted in Jamshedpur, but soon we will start this signature campaign in other districts also if no apology is tendered” Kashif concluded while talking to TwoCircles.net.
