Dhaka : Over 1,305 chickens and ducks were culled and 377 eggs destroyed in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur district, about 285 km northwest from here, Saturday midnight after the detection of avian influenza.

After a few chickens died at the poultry farms at Khod Shibpur village in Birol sub-district Wednesday, district livestock officials collected samples of some dead chickens from the village and sent those for laboratory tests.

The officials buried the chickens and eggs in one-km area of the village as the avian influenza was detected in the samples, private news agency UNB reported Sunday.

Bird flu has so far affected some 326,844 chickens in 29 out of Bangladesh’s 64 districts since the first detection of the virus in the country in March 2007, Manik Lal Samaddar, special assistant to the chief adviser of the caretaker government told reporters.
