Padma Shri Award for Lucknow’s Dr Mansoor Hasan

Lucknow: The brain behind establishment of Lari Cardiology Centre, the former head of Cardiology in CSM Medical University (CSMMU) Dr Mansoor Hasan has been chosen for Padma Shri honour on the eve of Republic Day.

Dr Hasan, who has retired from CSMMU in 1990, still remembers the day when he witnessed long queue of patients outside Cardiology department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi. “Most of them were poor and had arrived there from eastern region of UP. The concept of setting up a cardiology centre in Lucknow gained ground,” recalls Dr Hasan. Dr Hasan, then a young medico returned to Lucknow and mobilized resources from well wishers and Lari Cadiology Centre came into existence.

Over his selection for Padma Shri for his contribution in medicine, Dr Hasan remarked: “It is great feeling and getting Padma award is a big achievement. It is a satisfying moment of my career. Lari Cardiology Centre is also an achievement for me as I notice that the centre is performing over 100 angioplasty cases per month”.

He admits that the centre has shortcomings but still it is doing yeomen service for mankind.

Dr Hasan who has decades of teaching experience has recently joined Sahara Hospital. However for him, medical profession is not for minting money. “I worked day and night and not for money. It was for a cause and some people are still working for a good cause and not money, it gives relief to me,” he added.

On a personal note Dr Hasan loves philosophy and sufism. “It is all due to my upbringing which gives inspiration to me. My ancestral house is situated on a mound on the bank of Ganges. The place Garhi Samdabad, Kunda in Pratapgarh is full of inspiration and soothes me,” he added.
