Recall Indian ambassador: Karat

Hyderabad : The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Tuesday demanded that Indian Ambassador to the US Ronen Sen be recalled for his reported remarks about critics of the Indo-US civil nuclear deal.

CPI-M general secretary Pakash Karat told newsmen here that if the United Progressive Alliance government at New Delhi has any self-respect it should immediately recall the ambassador.

“We have an ambassador in Washington who seems to be the ambassador of President Bush, not the ambassador of India. And if the government has any self-respect it should immediately recall him,” Karat said soon after his arrival at the airport.

He later left for Mudigonda in Khammam district to unveil a memorial in memory of seven party workers killed in police firing on July 28 during the party’s land agitation.

Karat is to address a public meeting on the occasion ahead of the second phase of the land agitation.

The Left parties are demanding distribution of surplus government land and house sites to the landless poor.
