New Delhi : There was panic and security officials were on high alert in east Delhi Monday after an unidentified caller threatened to blow up a school. However, an extensive search failed to find any explosives.
According to police, the call was made to Roy Goyal, principal of the Adarsh Shiksha Niketan School in Mayur Vihar, at around 11.30 a.m. stating that the school building will be blasted off at 12.00 p.m.
The principal immediately informed the police and asked the nearly 1,000 students and teachers to assemble in the school playground.
Police arrived at the school with a bomb disposal squad and a dog squad and carried out intensive search but no suspicious object was discovered.
Later, police said the call was a hoax.
“We had carried out intensive searches in the school, but did not find anything suspicious. It may be a hoax call and we are now trying to ascertain the identity of the caller,” a senior police official said.
