Winning start for seeded players in Under-13 chess

New Delhi : Top seed and defending champion FIDE Master Vidit Santosh Gujrathi of Maharashtra made a winning start in the Parsvnath 21st National Under-13 Chess Championship which got underway at Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra Saturday. Gujrathi beat Ashitab Mishra of Delhi without much trouble in a top board clash.

The opening day proved to be an easy outing for seeded players as second seed and Asian Under-12 Bronze medallist Prasanna Rao of Maharashtra and Former World Under-12 Champion and third seed Narayanan Srinath also gained full points from their opening round matches beating Atul Bhonsle of Madhya Pradesh and Avijit Vajpayee of Delhi respectively.

Local player and Commonwealth Gold Medallist Vaibhav Suri started his campaign in style defeating Jayant Chouhan of Haryana.

However, World Under-10 bronze medalist Prince Bajaj had a tough day in the office as he had to settle for a draw against a lower seeded Gourav Sharan of Tamil Nadu.

The event has attracted a record participation of 245 players including a total of 102 FIDE rated players.
