Pakistan vetoes Rao’s move to Glamorgan

Cardiff (Wales) : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), besieged by a spate of injuries to its bowlers, has declined pacer Rao Iftikhar Anjum permission to play for Glamorgan in the coming summer.

“We have told Glamorgan that Pakistan cannot afford to release any of their players from the core squad,” PCB’s chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi told Western Mail paper.

With pacers Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul on the injury list and Shoaib Akhtar getting injured off and on the PCB believes there is pressure on its bowling resources.

Iftikhar, 27, has bagged 42 wickets in 39 one-day internationals, and has also played one Test. He was recently called as a replacement to India for an injured Gul for the Test series. He, however, was not played.
