Bhubaneswar : The pilot of an Indian Air Force (IAF) jet trainer had a narrow escape Saturday when the aircraft he was flying crashed while taking off at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Orissa’s capital Saturday.
According to the police, the plane was one of the four jet trainers flying from Kalaikunda airbase in West Bengal to Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. The aircraft had landed at the airport for refuelling.
Three of the planes took off safely around 11.30 a.m. after refuelling, while the fourth caught fire and crashed on the runway, the police said.
The pilot of the jet trainer escaped unhurt when he eject3d from the plane.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
