New Delhi, Dec 29, IRNA, The Indian Railway Ministry Friday announced that it had suspended the operation of Samjhauta Express and Thar Express — the two trains connecting India and Pakistan — on account of security considerations following the political turmoil in Pakistan.
The two trains had been suspended with immediate effect on account of “security considerations” in the wake of Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s assassination in Rawalpindi Thursday, UNI reported here quoting the statement issued by Railway ministry here Friday.
Meanwhile, in the wake of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with political leaders Friday to discuss the situation in Pakistan.
The all-party meeting was expected to assess the possible impact of the Pakistani developments on India.
The meeting came a day after Leader of Opposition L K Advani called up the Prime Minister and sought an early meeting to discuss the “worrisome” developments.
Meamwhile, States were asked to maintain strict vigil along the borders following assassination of Benazir Bhutoo in Pakistan.
According to a Home Ministry spokesman, border security forces were urged to remain vigilance on the India-Pakistan border.
The security has been increased at vital installations and sensitive places.
The Cabinet committee on security was meeting in New Delhi that evening to take stock of the situation.
