Kozhikode (Kerala) : Continuing their unbeaten run, Jagatjit Cotton Textile (JCT) football club of Phagwara lived up to expectations as they defeated Viva Kerala 2-0 in an I-League match here Saturday.
Viva fought hard on their home ground but could not keep JCT’s attacks at bay.
In the 25th minute, Sunil Chetri, who led the JCT team, headed home the first goal off a cross from Brazilian Marcos Pereira.
At the start of the second half, Viva Kerala spilled a golden chance for parity. Wisdom Abbey sent a shot past the JCT goalkeeper, but the ball was cleared by Gurvinder Singh in front of the goal line.
JCT’s second goal came in the 68th minute when Baljith Singh Sahni received a pass from Chetri and put the ball into the net.
In the dying moments of the game, Viva Kerala constantly tested the JCT defence but failed to find a breakthrough.
