Abu Dhabi : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) leads the Arab countries as well as many developed nations, including the US and Britain, in women’s representation in parliament, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said in its Human Development Report 2007-2008, WAM news agency reported Sunday.
The report, which was released recently, showed that the UAE tops the Arab countries in parliamentary representation of women. It is also ahead of many developed countries such as the US, Britain, France, Canada, Greece, the Republic of Ireland, Japan and Poland.
Women in the UAE’s Federal National Council (FNC) represent 22.5 percent of total number of members of parliament.
