Agartala : Tour operators of India and Bangladesh have decided to promote bilateral regional tourism and cultural exchanges, especially with India’s northeast.
A 12-member team of Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), currently on a visit to the northeastern states of Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya, met government officials and entrepreneurs in the region.
“We want cross border tourism to further strengthen our traditional bonds with Bangladesh,” said Tripura Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister Anil Sarkar.
Sarkar held a meeting with the TOAB delegation Thursday and discussed various modalities to boost tourism between the northeast and Bangladesh.
“A three-day international tourism festival would be organised in Dhaka from Sep 6 as part of efforts to develop tourism among the South Asian countries,” said Hasan Mansur, president of the TOAB and head of the Bangladesh delegation.
“We have agreements with European countries to undertake package tours and it would be very easy to route the European tourists to the northeast.”
