Dhaka : A landslide killed at least 17 people and injured 30 in Bangladesh's southeastern city of Chittagong Monday, officials said.
However, unofficial sources have put the figure at 19 and feared that the toll could be higher. The victims include children and women.
Fire Brigade officials said they have recovered so far 17 bodies, five from Chittagong University campus where a family of five was buried under the collapsed boundary wall.
Other people died in the mudslides at Kumira Sekender Colony, Muradpur, Matibala and Dewanhat.
The landslide was caused by torrential rain overnight that also flooded most area of Chittagong commercial city.
The rescue operations were hampered due to inclement weather and flooding.
