New Delhi : The Speed Post service of the Department of Posts will cost 40 percent less for letters within the same city, it was announced here Monday.
The move, effective from Monday, was taken to make the service competitive, the department said in a statement.
For letters weighing up to 50 grams, the rate has been slashed from Rs.20 to Rs.12, inclusive of service tax and education cess.
Speed Post services within Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad would be treated as local for tariff considerations, the statement said.
Speed Post services, available at more than 1,200 cities and towns across the country, earned revenues of Rs.4.49 billion during 2006-07.
