Lakeside (California), Nov 5 (IANS) Four birdies on the back nine saw India’s Arjun Atwal equal his best for the week as he played a three-under 68 final round at the Nationwide Tour Championships.
He finished at six-under 278 and tied for 44th place in the last event of the season.
Having failed to make the top-25 in the Nationwide Tour, the Indian goes back to the Qualifying School in an attempt to get into the PGA Tour again.
Welshman Richard Johnson won the title shooting a four-under 67 in the final round for a one-shot win over American Michael Letzig. The win helped Johnson jump from sixth to the top of the Money List and also booked him a place in the PGA Tour next year.
Johnson earned $139,500 for his second victory of the year and ended the season with $445,421. Johnson had won the Mark Christopher Charity Classic last month.
The 35-year-old Johnson finished with a 20-under 264 total on the Barona Creek course, breaking the tournament record of 18-under 270.
Letzig closed with a final round 66 and earned $83,700 to jump from 26th to 12th on the Money List with $263,948.
Martin Laird (66) and Tom Scherrer (68) tied for fourth at 18-under. Laird finished 13th on the Money list and Scherrer 20th. Both go to the PGA Tour next year.
