Srinagar : The pro-Independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Monday announced the postponement of the Jammu leg of its ‘march for freedom’ following prohibitory orders by authorities.

“We will meet soon to decide out future strategy. We were forced to postpone our Safar-e-Azadi march after the authorities in Doda district ordered our arrest yesterday,” JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik told reporters here.

Authorities in Doda district of Jammu region, fearing trouble in the town, Sunday imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 (banning the gathering of five or more people in one place), and disallowed the JKLF march in the town.

“We had sought prior permission from the district administration and we reached Doda yesterday. However, despite the permission, I was detained by the police along with my supporters and released this morning.

“Our valley Safar-e-Azadi march of 114 days evoked tremendous response (in the Kashmir Valley in the summer) and we wanted to spread the message of brotherhood during our Jammu march and talk to the common people, and send a message to both India and Pakistan that the people of the state have to be involved in the talks for a final settlement of the issue,” Malik said.
