Mumbai : Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has urged upon the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Minorities Commission (NMC) for action against the culprits of Gujarat riots mentioned in the Tehelka expose. Action has been sought against the chief minister and others who have been alleged on the tapes to have aided and abetted in carrying out the Gujarat carnage 2002, an IUML statement released here Monday said.
Sending the petitions along with the copies of the Tehelka magazine, IUML president G.M. Banatwala said, "As confirmed by the tapes and the weekly magazine Tehelka there was a total dehumanization of the state machinery and crushing of the human rights of the minority."
The petitions have demanded that the commissions recommend strongly the removal of the chief minister and imposition of President Rule in Gujarat.
Detailing state prejudices against the Muslim minority as brought out by the expose, the petitions have stressed that "there can be no justice nor any availability of even the basic human rights in Gujarat
under Modi rule."
Thanking the National Human Rights Commission for having taken cognizance of the Tehelka expose, the petition has urged upon it to obtain the full tapes of the expose which reportedly run over 40 hours.
