Kabul : The Afghanistan Olympic Committee is ready to establish a woman boxing federation for the first time ever, it was reported by the media here Thursday.
The move will recognise women boxers of this war-torn country and would help them practice the sport, wrote the Afghanistan Times.
Some 20 girls have already been training under expert Afghan coaches.
“I am really hopeful of seeing Afghan girls boxing. I urge the government for more support adding that the families should let their daughters join different sports,” Saber Sharife, a trainer, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
Shabnam Rahimi is the first student who took to boxing and enthusiastically registered herself for the sport.
Rahimi said that she really likes the boxing, adding that many women in other parts of the country box regularly and that was the reason behind her involvement in this field.
Compared to other sports in Afghanistan, boxing is quite popular has a realistic chance of winning medals in international competitions for this war-torn country.
