Keonjhar (Orissa) : Thousands of tonnes of iron ore disappeared from a mining area in Orissa, and officials believe it was taken away in a train illegally.

On Tuesday night, officials spotted the iron ore suspected to have been stolen from a mine in Jurudi railway siding in Keonjhar district, 300 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar.

The next day, the official found that much of the ore had been loaded on 16 wagons of a goods train.

The official urged the station master of the railway station to detach the wagons and detain the train till people involved in the transport of ore showed their documents.

On Friday, the police were told that the train was gone – with the iron ore, a police official told IANS.
