Raipur : Two women have been arrested in Chhattisgarh for allegedly pushing girls into prostitution after promising them jobs as domestic workers.
The women were arrested Sunday in Bastar district, after a 20-year-old resident of Nagarnar area in the district approached the police with evidence about the supply of young girls for prostitution in major cities around the country, district superintendent of police G.P Singh said Monday.
Police claimed to have seized Rs.10,000 from the arrested women and to have identified associates of the arrested women in various cities.
Police have long suspected that hundreds of tribal girls are the victims of people who force them into prostitution after taking them far from home on the promise of getting them jobs as domestic workers.
