Nashik : President Pratibha Patil Tuesday visited the famous Shirdi temple near here and paid obeisance seeking the blessings of Sai Baba.

The president, who arrived here Monday night on a three-day visit, inaugurated the ‘Ashvamedh’ sports festival later in the day. All universities of Maharashtra state are participating in the festival.

Patil will inaugurate the silver jubilee functions of the Nashik Municipal Corporation here Wednesday and name the Bhujbal Education Trust complex at Adgaon near the city as “Knowledge City”. Maharashtra Public Works Minister Chhagan Bhujbal heads the education trust.

Patil’s presence at the time of Nashik Municipal Corporation’s 25th anniversary is considered as significant as it was during her tenure as Maharashtra’s urban development minister in 1982 that the municipal council was upgraded to the status of a civic corporation.

The civic corporation will accord a grand felicitation to the president. She will also inaugurate a weeklong Nashik Festival at the same function.
