Kolkata : The decomposed body of a 32-year-old schoolteacher missing for more than a fortnight was found in the septic tank of his friend’s house in south Kolkata.
The body of Sudipta Ghosh was found Monday at the house of his friend at Amtala on the southern fringes of Kolkata. His hands and feet were tied.
Ghosh used to teach science subjects at Barisha Janakalyan High School.
Local reports said Partha Mukherjee — the owner of the house where the body was found and the prime suspect in the case — has been absconding but police have arrested a common friend of the duo, Gobinda Mallick, for his alleged role in the murder.
“The sleuths suspect the teacher had been strangled. There was no external injury mark on the body. We have to wait for the post-mortem examination report before coming to any conclusion,” South 24-Parganas police superintendent Praveen Kumar said.
He said a murder case has been registered and one person arrested. “We are still searching for two others involved in the murder,” Kumar added.
Ghosh went missing from his Amtala residence Nov 9.
“He was at home teaching some students when he received an urgent call. He borrowed the bicycle of one of his students, saying he would return soon. That was the last time we saw him,” the victim’s father Balram Ghosh said.
Sudipta’s elder brother Santanu Ghosh said the family waited for his return for some time and then informed the police.
“We had lodged a missing report at Bishnupur police station,” Santanu said.
