Mahindra ropes in Deutsche Bank for Jaipur economic zone

Jaipur : Mahindra and Mahindra’s $3-billion special economic zone coming up near Jaipur has roped in Deutsche Bank for a 200,000 sq ft offshore facility, a top official of the company said here Friday.

“Deutsche Bank is setting up their 200,000 sq ft facility at our special economic zone. They will start their operations by June 1 next year,” Arun Nanda, executive director of Mahindra and Mahindra, said.

“This will be their third offshore facility after Bangalore and Mumbai,” Nanda told IANS at the Resurgent Rajasthan summit, co-hosted by the state government and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) here.

For the multi-product Jaipur economic zone, called the Mahindra World City, the company has already roped in Infosys Technologies and Wipro, besides its own arm Tech Mahindra, to set up their facilities.

“Infosys is setting up a unit spread over 200 acres, Wipro in 100 acres and Tech Mahindra over 15 acres,” Nanda said, adding that his $6-billion company was also setting up special economic zones in Chennai, and Pune and Thane in Maharashtra.

“Work has already started in our Chennai and Pune special economic zones. In Chennai, we have already sold 1,400 acres, while in Pune, the impact assessment is on for our unit,” Nanda said.

The Thane special economic zone is yet to be notified.

Mahindra officials said their World City project has dedicated zones for areas such as IT and outsourcing services, leisure, residential areas, manufacturing, warehousing and logistics.

Besides the Mahindra group, the co-promoters include the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corp Ltd, the state-run agency that promotes the industrial development in Rajasthan.

The unit is located on the National Highway 8, some 25 km from Jaipur and around 260 km from New Delhi. Jurong Constructions of Singapore are its master-planners.

Fail-safe utilities in the form of stable power via in-zone sub-station, premium housing and an unlimited bandwidth through an optic fibre network are some of its strengths, the officials added.
