Patna : The Bihar government Thursday announced a Rs.100,000 reward to anyone providing information about a 12-year-old schoolboy kidnapped from Patna two months ago.

Akash Pandey was abducted on his way to school Aug 10. The police have failed to trace him.

Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah said the government would reward anyone who can provide information about Akash and his kidnappers. “The identity of the informer will be kept a secret,” he said.

Akash’s parents have demanded that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Akash’s mother Anju said: “The government should hand over the case to the CBI as the police have failed to make any breakthrough.”

The boy’s father, Yogendra Pandey, added: “The CBI can recover my son. How long will we wait for the state police to trace him?”

Kidnapping has become a thriving industry in Bihar. Nearly 5,000 people, including hundreds of children, were abducted in the state last year. Over 2,210 people were kidnapped in the first half of this year.
