Blueline bus knocks down software engineer

New Delhi : A 35-year-old software engineer Monday suffered injuries after a Blueline bus hit his motorcycle in south Delhi, the police said.

Pramod Kumar, the driver of the privately operated city bus plying on Teevra Mudrika route, lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into Sudhanshu Goyal’s motorbike around 1.00 p.m. in front of the Sarai Kale Khan gas filling station.

“Goyal was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where his condition was said to be out of danger,” a police official said.

Goyal, a resident of Indraprastha Extension in east Delhi and employed with a software company, was going to his Okhla office when the bus knocked him down.

According to the police, the bus driver was overpowered by the passers-by while he was trying to flee from the spot. He was later handed over to the police.

“We have arrested Pramod on charges of rash and negligent driving and a case has been registered. The bus has also been impounded,” the official added.

Delhi has over 4,000 Blueline buses, which form a crucial part in the capital’s public transport. They have earned the epithet of “killer buses” as their rogue drivers have run over 98 people and left more than 160 injured this year so far.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit asked the Federation of Delhi Bus Operators (FDBO) to execute a memorandum of understanding (MoU) this week with the state government to ensure safety on the capital’s roads.
