Quito : Ecuador’s Agustin Delgado, a leading scorer for the national soccer team in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, ruled out returning to the national team for the 2010 World Cup qualifying matches, reports Xinhua.
“One can’t refuse the country, but it’s very difficult at this time,” Delgado said Wednesday. The 34-year-old striker, who plays for local club Liga de Quito, had announced his retirement from international football in September, citing back problems.
“It’s very premature for me to say ‘I’m going to play the qualifying matches with the national team,’ which are very difficult.”
