Quito : Miller Bolanos, who plays for Barcelona, a club from the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, tested positive for cocaine at the end of a premier league match, Ecuadorian Football Federation vice-president Carlos Villacis said Wednesday.
“Romulo Aguilar, the president of the medical commission, called me today to tell me about the lamentable case of Miller Bolanos,” he announced Wednesday, according to a Xinhua report.
The case will be examined Monday by the Federation’s disciplinary commission, although the player or the team’s directors have the right to demand a second test to confirm the result.
The 17-year-old Bolanos is the second footballer to test positive for drugs this season, after Emelec midfielder, Michael Arroyo, tested positive for marijuana.
Bolanos’s test was taken after the Oct 3 Olmedo-Barcelona match in Guayaquil, part of Ecuador’s domestic league’s 17th playing day.
The teenager has been training with Ecuador’s national team as a special guest, as the team prepares for November matches against Peru and Paraguay, part of the South American qualifying matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
