Randhawa at three-under despite not finishing second round

Mallorca (Spain) : Jyoti Randhawa was unable to complete the second round at the rain-hit Mallorca Classic at Pula Golf Club Friday. Two-under for the first round, he was one-under through seven holes in the second round for a provisional placing of tied 15th when play was stopped due to darkness.

Randhawa will return Saturday to finish his second round and then start the third round.

Robert-Jan Derksen of The Netherlands and France’s Jean-Francois Lucquin shared the clubhouse lead at nine-under 131. Derksen and Lucquin both shot five under par 65. They lead Denmark’s Mads Vibe-Hastrup and Ireland’s Peter Lawrie by three shots.

Sergio Garcia, winner in 2004 and runner-up last two years, was three under par after nine holes of his second round when play was suspended.

Sixty players finished their rounds but 54 have to return early to complete their second rounds. The third round will commence at noon from two tees after the halfway cut has been made.

Randhawa started on the 10th tee and birdied the 11th and 15th, but in between dropped a shot on the 13th.

Randhawa, who won the Hero Honda Indian Open on his previous start in New Delhi, is currently 35th on the European Money List and will next week start at the Volvo Masters of Europe. While he started the season very well, he cooled off in the later stages before winning the Indian Open.

“It will be nice to finish the season well as that always sets up things well for the following season,” said Randawa.

Derksen has missed just three cuts in 27 events this season and has been consistent, but not really close to any wins. Derksen was second in the Russian Open in August but was six shots behind winner Per-Ulrik Johansson.

Lawrie is still searching for the elusive first victory on The European Tour International Schedule and has his sights on a high finish to qualify for next week’s season-ending Volvo Masters at Valderrama.
