New Delhi : A man was killed and another received minor injuries when a speeding Blueline bus hit their motorcycle in south Delhi Saturday, taking the toll of those killed by the capital’s privately operated buses to 78 this year with no end in sight.
A speeding bus, plying on Route No 455, hit motorbike rider Ritu and his uncle, pillion rider Bhawar Singh, from behind near a Honda showroom in Okhla Phase-II at 3.30 p.m.
Forty-year-old Singh, who had come to visit his sister from Uttar Pradesh a few days ago, died on the spot, while Ritu, in his early 20s, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The bus driver fled after the accident.
“We have registered a case of negligence against the absconding bus driver,” a police official said.
There are more than 4,000 Blueline buses in the capital, forming a crucial part of its public transport system. Known as “killer buses”, these had claimed nearly 100 lives last year.
They are again facing public ire as they have figured in a large number of fatal accidents in recent months.
