Srinagar : A truck driver was killed and a trooper was injured when security forces and suspected militants exchange fire near Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, while a Special Police Officers (SPOs) were injured when militants ambushed a police party in Lolab area of North Kashmir, late on Friday night.
Official sources claimed that unidentified militants opened fire on the troopers of 154 Bn CRPF upon near Wagund, Qazigund, when they (troopers) were patrolling the area as a routine area domination exercise.
The fire was returned and a brief exchange of fire took place between the two sides, an official spokesman told News Agency of Kashmir, adding while a jawan was wounded, a stray bullet hit a civilian truck, parked nearby, killing its driver on the spot.
The deceased driver has been identified as fourty-two year old Paira Singh son of Baldev Singh of Malik Market Jammu. The injured trooper, HC N C S Raddy was immediately shifted to the hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, unidentified militants fired upon an ambush party of police Takipora Lolab in village Dharpora.
The attack was retaliated and in the ensuing gun battle, which lasted for about half an hour, one SPO, Manzoor Ahmad received bullet injury. The injured SPO was rushed to Army hospital Drugmullah for treatment. Militants manage to escape taking the advantage of darkness.
