Excon 2007 to attract 300 exhibitors to Bangalore

Kolkata, Sep 27 (IANS) Excon 2007, India’s largest construction equipment and technology trade fair, is expected to attract 300 exhibitors and 55,000 visitors. The fair will be held in Bangalore Nov 14-18.

“Excon will be the forum where industry CEOs and regulators will come together to discuss challenges and business opportunities available to the private sector in development of infrastructure in the country,” Excon chairman and JCB India Ltd managing director Vipin Sondhi said.

He said since the planning commission has estimated that total investment in infrastructure has to increase from 4.5 percent to around 7.5 percent of the GDP in the Eleventh Five Year Plan, there is huge opportunity for private players to participate in infrastructure development.

The fair is jointly organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Indian Earthmoving and Construction Industry Association Ltd (IECIAL).

Excon is Asia’s third largest trade fair for the equipment industry and is rated among the top ten construction equipment and construction technology trade fairs worldwide.

“The construction equipment industry is registering 25-30 percent year-on-year growth in India. We are enthusiastic to capitalise on the opportunity in the future,” Sondhi told IANS on the sidelines of the road show here Wednesday evening.

During the Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007-2012), projected investments of over $320 billion at 2005-06 prices are envisaged in the infrastructure sector, which have been revised to $384 billion at 2005-06 prices, equivalent to $475 billion at current prices.

The event will see participation of numerous international delegates. CEOs from around 16 countries are expected to take part. There will be pavilions from Germany, Britain, South Korea, Italy and China.

The exhibits will showcase heavy construction equipment including bulldozers, earth excavators and front-end loaders.
