Washington : US presidential candidate Barack Obama received on Wednesday support by Indiana state representative Lee Hamilton, one of the top figures of the Democratic party in foreign policy.
With this new political joining, Illinois’ congressman gets an important support in his way to the primary elections on May 6 in the northern state.
According to analysts, Hamilton will also improve Obama’s image regarding national security, because he presided over the commission that investigated the terrorist attacks in 2001 and led the Foreign Affairs parliamentary committee.
I have read his file and speeches, and his has impressed me as a visionary that will be able to use all the presidential power tools in a pragmatic way, Hamilton explained about the Afro American legislator.
In 1992, the 76-year-old democratic congressman was on the list of William Clinton’s possible vice presidential formulae, and now his association with Obama could mean a psychological blow to ex First Lady Hillary Clinton.
Barack Obama also gained support by Senator Amy Klobuchar, from Minnesota, who was concerned about the resentful tone in the democratic primary election development.
Illinois parliamentarian will be able to change the harsh and cynical tone that our policy has used under the administration of President George W. Bush, said Klobuchar.
Earlier, Senator Bob Casey, from Pensylvania, and New Mexico state Governor Bill Richardson also joined the campaign of the only black aspirant to the White House.
Obama is currently leading the run for party delegate appointment, with 1,626 votes against 1,486 of the ex First Lady.
