Baghdad : A U.S. airman was killed by a roadside bomb explosion near his vehicle in Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday when an improvised explosive device (IED) struck a Multi-National Division – Baghdad patrol in central Baghdad, a military statement said. The attack came as violence subsided in Baghdad and some other Iraqi cities after fierce clashes between Shiite Mahdi Armymilitia loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and the U.S.-backed Iraqi security forces.
The latest death brings the number of U.S. soldiers that have been killed in Iraq to about 4,013 since the Iraq war broke out in2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
