US Seeks to Sway Europe on Cuba

By Prensa Latina

Madrid : The current European tour of US Department of State Cuba Transition Coordinator Caleb McCarry seeks to press this continent to support Washington policy against Cuba, the Spanish website “Rebelion” reports Tuesday.

McCarry’s trip is through Brussels, Germany and Norway, although other secret stopovers are not discarded.

The agent appointed to materialize the Bush Plan against Cuba is the equivalent of Paul Bremen, the former US administrator in occupied Iraq.

It is his goal to force the European Union to maintain an adverse position against Cuba, the website states.

The text mentions the secret nature of some points of McCarrys trip and mentions among them Spain.

The article explains that the voyage takes place when the EU is warming up to Cuba and Washington is in danger of the so-called Group of 27 eliminating measures applied against the Caribbean nation, which are temporarily suspended.

The publication states that the EU must review in June those actions imposed on Cuba, which since their approval in 2003 have called into question whether Europe has an independent position regarding the island.

“The US official aims to repeat his 2007 tour of interference ordered by the outgoing President George W. Bush, who has not stop kicking to keep the EU plunged into its failed aims to isolate Cuba and destroy the Revolution,” concludes the note.
