Islamabad : The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) will meet on May 7 and 8 in London to restore Pakistan’s membership to the Commonwealth, local newspaper Daily Times reported on Thursday.
Daily Times quoted diplomatic sources as saying that the Commonwealth members had decided to restore Pakistan’s membership after the new government had been established in Islamabad.
A formal announcement would be made by CMAG in London, which suspended Pakistan’s membership and its right to participate in meetings of the 53-member organization on Nov. 22 after President Pervez Musharraf imposed a state of emergency on Nov. 3.
British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said he hoped that Pakistan would soon become an active member of the Commonwealth in a telephone call to Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
