Madrid : The Communist Party of Spain (PCE) warned the government Wednesday to not support the US administration in its current attempt to stir up European hostility against Cuba.
The PCE denounced a possible visit to Madrid of US Department of State Cuba Transition Coordinator Caleb McCarry, claiming he is responsible for designing and applying a plan to dominate by force the Cuban people and install an occupying government on the island.
“McCarry is a person who tries to evade international law, and his visit to Spain would be clearly offensive for the Cuban people, so authorities must reject it,” states the release inked by Jose Luis Centella, in charge of the PCE international relations.
The document explains that the creation of a group led by McCarry is an unusual case and clearly against international law, “an example of US disdain for the sovereignty of a UN member country.” This concerns a commission to topple a sovereign government like Cuba with public and private finance, the note highlights.
Centella says that several Spanish deputies, mayors and councilors will demand the Foreign Affairs Ministry not to support activities by the US coordinator on his current tour of Belgium, Germany and Norway, although other secret stopovers are not discarded.
The movement of solidarity with Cuba in Spain, as well as other organizations that “will deservedly respond to whomever works for invading and occupying a sovereign country and member of the international community,” the PCE release states.
