Damascus : A preparatory regional meeting on security in Iraq concluded Monday in Damascus, after two days of sessions considered positive according to official sources from Syria.
The debate, according to same source, was centered on how to establish plans of cooperation in “the fight against terrorism” and its final declaration emphasizes that kind of support among the neighboring states of the Arab country.
This closed door-encounter provided conditions to carry out a ministerial meeting on April 22 in Kuwait. However, Al Arabiya TV, from United Arab Emirates, reported that during the encounter there was friction between Baghdad and Teheran, due to presumed intervention in the domestic matters of Iraq and for triggering destabilization of the Arab country.
Those sent from Iraq used US speech, in order to place Iran in an uncomfortable situation in their relations with the remaining countries of the Persian Gulf.
The responsable for US matters in Damascus Micheal Corbin reiterated the need of stopping what he described as “flow of terrorists and arms through the common borders with Iraq”.
Representative people of the other member permanent of the Security Council were also present in the meeting, as well as, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kuwait.
