Berlusconi pledges to tackle economy and crime

By IRNA,

Rome : Crime and the economy will be Silvio Berlusconi’s main targets during his third term as Italy’s prime minister.

In his first televised comments since completing his comeback, the veteran centre-right leader set out his programme for government and what he called its immediate priorities.

“We have two urgent subjects to tackle. The first is the serious situation over waste disposal in Naples. I intend to hold my first Cabinet meeting in the city to show the importance we attach to finding a solution,” he said.

“The other problem we have to deal with quickly is that of Alitalia – lucky we’re ready to intervene,” he added.

Berlusconi also praised the election results saying with “one major party now in power and one in opposition, Italy can be governed like other Western democracies.”
