Lanzhou : Four people died and seven were injured in a pile-up in front of a highway tollgate late on Monday in northwest China’s Gansu Province, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.
The accident took place at 7 p.m. at the tollgate of national highway 312 inside Yongdeng, a suburban county of Lanzhou, the provincial capital, said a traffic police official.
The accident occurred when about 12 vehicles were stopped in front of the tollgate.
A truck loaded with cement was said to have gone out of control and run into a three-wheeled farm vehicle carrying farmers who had been working at a nearby mine. The three-wheeled vehicle smashed into another truck in front of it.
All the casualties were from the motor tricycle. Its driver, Zhang Changquan, was also injured in the collision.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
