Kuwait : The election administration did its best to ensure the registration of candidates for the National Assembly (NA) elections would proceed smoothly, an official said Tuesday.
Head of the administration Ali Murad told KUNA that the process did not face any problems, expecting that the number of candidates would range between 300 and 350 by the last registration day.
He pointed out that the administration provided a center in which journalists and media personnel could make interviews with the candidates.
Murad said that those wanting to register themselves as candidates should have their nationality certificates, two photographs and pay the KD 50 insurance fees.
Photos are needed as article 31 of the elections law states that the Interior Ministry should put bulletin boards in centers of areas including the names and photos of candidates, he added.
Those who do not want their photos to appear in the bulletin boards do not need to bring photos with them for the registration, he noted.
The ministry will only put bulletin boards in the center and candidates will be responsible for the costs of bulletin boards in their electoral campaigns’ headquarters, Murad said.
Compared to Monday, a small number of candidates registered Tuesday. By 9: 00 a.m., only 12 candidates, including one female who is Dr. Khalda Al-Khether, registered.
